They come in countless beautiful color and pattern morphs to choose from.
They are harmless, docile and easy to handle, even for children (5+).
Corn snakes are very low-maintenance pets and don't need to eat more than once a week. They eagerly eat frozen / thawed rodents (available at many pet stores and online), which is convenient for the keeper and nicer for people who are uncomfortable feeding live food.
They are quiet, hypoallergenic, odorless and do not require nearly as much cage cleaning as most caged pets.
They stay relatively small in size and usually do not require anything larger than a 20 gallon terrarium when they are full-grown.
Corn snakes are very affordable to purchase (especially the more common morphs) and to maintain.

Ball Pythons Also Make Great Pets.... but Not for Everyone.
Ball pythons also come in many beautiful color and pattern morphs, but many of the fancy morphs are quite expensive and out of reach to the average reptile keeper. Normal ball pythons are very affordable, though.
They are also harmless, mellow and easy to handle; even for kids. They are slow-moving and cuddly.... the kind of snake that will sit on your lap and snuggle. Escapes are not very common.
They stay relatively manageble in size. Females do grow to be significantly larger and heavier than males. A male should be fine in a 20 gallon long tank for life, but a female will likely need something larger when full-grown.
Ball pythons are also pretty low-maintenance pets and don't need to eat more than once a week. It is fine to feed older ones every two weeks if desired.
Ball pythons are quiet, hypoallergenic, odorless and do not require frequent cage cleaning.

Ball pythons are more challenging to feed than corn snakes and many other snake species. Most of them do require live prey when they are babies. The majority of them will switch to frozen / thawed prey by the time they are a year of age, but it does require some skill to get them to switch. It is also not unusual for them to go on fasts that may last for several weeks. This is usually harmless to the snakes but can be upsetting to their keepers. There is a definitely a learning curve involved with feeding them effectively, and they do require more precision in husbandry. For this reason, we do not recommend them as a first snake or for beginners. A corn snake is a much better choice for beginners. Really.
All offspring from American Cornsnake Registry (ACR) and Royal Pedigree registered snakes. Parent snake information and photos available on request.
