Rippin' Reptiles 4-H Club
 of Central Oregon
Rippin' Reptiles is a unique 4-H club with an emphasis on herpetology. It is open to Central Oregon kids grades 4-12, who own reptiles. The club provides its young herpetologists with opportunities to see and learn about a variety of reptiles through various field trips to visit reptile experts within the community and even to attend a reptile expo in the big city. At the end of the 4-H year, the kids have the opportunity to enter and show their reptiles at the Deschutes County Fair.

The 4-H group got to visit Wade, a local exotic snake keeper (pictured on the left with his kids). Everyone got to hold the friendly boa. He also had vipers and an anaconda (pictured below), which the kids were able to view close up through their glass terrariums.
The 4-H group also had the opportunity to visit Val, a local herpetologist (pictured) with many reptiles of her own, including these turtles, bearded dragons and fire belly newts, among many others.

The 4-H kids went to visit Brian, who runs a reptile rescue organization in Central Oregon. He was very knowledgable about reptile care and let the kids hold most of the animals.
This veiled camelian, who had been recued from an unfavorable environment, had a probable tumor on her head. The 4-H group donated some money to help with her medical care.
